Van Helsing is the newest horror room in the group and the youngest-friendly one in Melbourne, from 13. Where Dracula has you chasing the Count through his crypt, this one starts after the hunter has already lost.

As soon as we entered the foyer, we were impressed by the decor and were then greeted warmly by staff. We were lucky enough to be the first to go through the Van Helsing room and it was epic! The lighting and the puzzles were well thought out and challenging. The quality of the room and games were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone in Melbourne. Our only problem is that we live too far away to visit regularly to try out all the other rooms!

Van Helsing: questions

Do you have to play Dracula before Van Helsing?

No. Escape This built them as separate rooms in separate cities, Dracula in Northbridge and Van Helsing on Collins Street in Melbourne, sharing one gothic story. Either works on its own; playing both simply gives you the Count’s side and then the hunter’s.

Is there a horror escape room a 13-year-old can do?

Yes: Frankenstein Resurrection at Northbridge and Sydney CBD, and Van Helsing at Melbourne CBD, both 13+ in Escape This’s booking system. Every other horror room starts at 15 or 18. The Dunny is open to 13-year-olds too, though it is a spooky thriller rather than horror.
